Quote about Mike Powell:
“You have a rare talent for song writing”
Said the late great Gordon Lorenz – prolific music producer who made it in to the Guinness Book of World Records for producing the most amount of albums ever.
Look at the video below of Mike with Gordon producing music at Abbey Road Studios in London.
Gordon Lorenz’s credentials for producing music were second to none. He wrote and produced ‘Bob The Builder’ sung by actor Neil Morrisey for the TV childrens series. He also wrote the Queen Mother’s 80th birthday anniversary song ‘Grandma I Love you’ sung by Clive Dunn, the actor well known for playing Mr Jones of the iconic BBC series ‘Dad’s Army’.
Mr Lorenz also produced music for the likes of Shirley Bassey, Sir Cliff Richard, Charlotte Church and Atomic Kitten to name a few.
Mr Lorenz recognised Mike’s talent for song writing but sadly passed away in 2011.
Before Mike was taken on by Gordon Lorenz he was managed by another great icon of the music industry. Notably Ronan O’Rahilly.
Mike was managed by Ronan O’Rahilly for 12 years and during that time Mike wrote and produced some great music.
It was in 1994 after Mike had wrote 67 songs that Ronan agreed to manage Mike in the music industry. Ronan was the founder of Radio Caroline (the original pirate radio station in the 1960’s before Radio 1 came along).
Ronan had a hand in the careers of iconic names in the industry such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Georgie Fame, The Animals, The Who and more. He also helped in the career of Marl Knopfler of Dire Straits.
Mike wrote and recorded 100’s of songs from 1992 to 2006 when he decided to part company with his manager.
Ronan O’Rahilly recently passed away in April 2020, RIP, and received many great tributes including a great piece by Roger Daltrey (The Who) for a newspaper in early May 2020.
From 1992 Mike has tried to get his music out to the wide world but his music was very much Beatles style earlier on and the 1990’s may have been the wrong time to show his music to the world with the onset of ‘electronic’ music and we think Ronan thought this but he always realised Mike’s talent. Mike’s music ranges from pop, ballads and rock but is easy listening and he has some masterpieces that have not been heard before.
And now with retro music being performed by young top artists we feel now is the time to bring this music to the fore so that people have the opportunity to sample his music works.
It is a road where he has experienced Television, Radio, Media and recording in the world famous Abbbey Road Studios in London.
And now with 350 songs written and 120 recorded you can share in his music.
